As a Hounds for Heroes Puppy Parent, you’ll welcome one of our puppies into your home from around 8 weeks old and help them build the skills and confidence they need for future assistance dog training.

You don’t need previous dog training experience. Our training team will support you throughout.

Could You Be a Puppy Parent?

Puppy Parenting is a rewarding role, but it is also a significant commitment. Our puppies usually live with their Puppy Parent until around 12 to 14 months old, although some may move on earlier.

During that time, you will:

  • Provide a safe, loving home for your puppy
  • Attend regular puppy classes and one-to-one training sessions
  • Follow an individual training and socialisation plan
  • Introduce your puppy to a variety of everyday environments and experiences
  • Use positive training methods consistently at home
  • Attend veterinary appointments and keep health records up to date
  • Keep in regular contact with our training team
  • Share photos and updates from your puppy’s journey
What We Provide

You won’t be doing it alone. Hounds for Heroes provides:

  • All food and essential equipment
  • Veterinary care and insurance
  • Structured training and guidance
  • Ongoing support from our dog training team
What We’re Looking For

To become a Puppy Parent, you’ll need to:

  • Live within approximately 25 miles of our HQ in Petersfield
  • Be able to attend regular training sessions
  • Have enough time to care for a young puppy and avoid routinely leaving them alone for long periods
  • Be committed to following our training guidance and positive training methods
  • Be able to travel to our Petersfield HQ when required
