How a Hounds for Heroes dog can help
Hounds for Heroes assistance dogs are specially trained to help physically disabled serving and former members of HM Armed Forces and UK Emergency Services live with greater independence, confidence and freedom.
Our support goes far beyond the assistance dog. From your initial enquiry, our dedicated team works closely with you, understanding your unique needs, guiding you through the process and tailoring the partnership to suit your lifestyle. We provide ongoing training, advice, and assistance to ensure you and your dog build a strong, effective bond that truly enhances your life.
Whether it's retrieving dropped items, opening doors, dressing, operating push buttons or emergency assistance, our dogs offer practical help tailored precisely to your needs. They complement your strengths, helping you overcome obstacles and embrace new possibilities.
Our dogs give you more confidence when out and about, whether that’s a trip to the shops, a walk in the park, or travelling to work or social events. With your dog by your side, everyday journeys can become easier, safer and more enjoyable, helping you reconnect with your community and the world around you.
Trained to respond to verbal commands and non-verbal cues, many of our dogs are also equipped to act instinctively in emergencies, alerting others or activating emergency call systems if you fall or become unconscious. Some even help by ensuring your mobile phone is within reach or bringing a blanket.
We continually develop new ways to adapt training and support to each partner’s evolving needs. Our commitment is to stand beside you long after your dog joins your life, offering advice, refresher training and a community of care.
Beyond practical assistance, these dogs offer unwavering companionship, bringing comfort, joy and motivation that inspire a fuller, richer life.
