Walking for Fred: 100 Miles in Memory and Hope

This summer, Tracy Levick and her dog Che will set off on a heartfelt journey across Scotland. Walking 100 miles in memory of her beloved husband, Fred, while raising funds and awareness for Hounds for Heroes.

Fred sadly passed away in 2024 following a courageous battle with cancer. A devoted dog lover, Fred found great comfort in the companionship of their dogs throughout his illness. Walks offered a sense of calm and continuity, and the joy he found in meeting other dogs and their owners never left him.

“Fred’s heart was covered in the pawprints of many a dog,” Tracy shares. “He truly understood the therapeutic power of dogs, their loyalty, their calming presence, and the unconditional love they give so freely.”

It’s this shared understanding that made Hounds for Heroes a cause close to Fred’s heart. Now, in his memory, Tracy is lacing up her walking boots and hitting the trails with Che to honour his legacy and raise vital funds for a charity he admired.

Starting on the weekend of 21st June, Tracy will walk a series of familiar routes Fred loved, covering nine locations and culminating in three walks on the Island of Arran in August. Each walk is more than a physical step, it’s a tribute, a memory, and a message of hope.

The Walks

21st June – Southside Glasgow & Queen’s Park
28th June – The Knapps, Kilmacolm
12th July – Falkirk Wheel
26th July – Bridge of Weir
2nd August – Largs
16th–23rd August – Isle of Arran:
-Brodick
-Giants’ Graves, Lamlash
-Final step: Holy Island – a peaceful end to the journey and place of reflection.

Throughout her challenge, Tracy will be proudly wearing a Hounds for Heroes t-shirt, sharing information leaflets, and encouraging passers-by to learn more about the charity’s mission to transform lives through assistance dogs.

“Being able to promote a charity that Freddie loved brings me a lot of comfort and purpose as I navigate the future,” Tracy says. “These walks are for him, for the dogs we shared, and for the heroes your charity supports.”

Tracy also has strong family ties to the military, making this cause all the more meaningful. Her goal is simple: to walk, to remember, to connect and to raise both awareness and funds to help support more life-changing partnerships between assistance dogs and their injured or disabled partners from the UK Armed Forces and Emergency Services.
