Thanks to the generosity of bereaved families and The Oaks Havant Crematorium, Hounds for Heroes received an incredible £25,000 donation to sponsor an assistance dog and help create a life-changing partnership.
The Oaks Havant Crematorium nominated Hounds for Heroes to receive funding through a national scheme that recycles metals remaining after cremation, with the express consent of bereaved families. Southern Co-op added a further £4,300 to the £20,000 raised through the scheme, bringing the total donation to £25,000.
The Oaks Havant Crematorium explained why they chose to support Hounds for Heroes:
"Bereavement can mean many things, the loss of a loved one of course, but also the loss of a limb, hearing, sight, memory, or life as someone knows it. We try and choose local charities who not only deal with bereavement in some form but also ones close to our hearts.
Hounds for Heroes is an amazing charity who we felt was thoroughly deserving of our donation for a year. We topped up the money a little ourselves as a company and managed to raise a whopping £25,000, meaning we could Sponsor a Dog to Partnership level."
This remarkable donation sponsored Aurora, a Golden Retriever whose journey has now come full circle. Since receiving this generous support, Aurora has successfully completed his training and is now partnered with a physically disabled serving or former member of HM Armed Forces or the UK Emergency Services, helping provide greater independence, confidence and freedom every day.
Every dog sponsorship helps fund specialist training, equipment, veterinary care and lifelong aftercare, ensuring our assistance dog partnerships receive the support they need to thrive throughout their working lives.
Our sincere thanks go to everyone at The Oaks Havant Crematorium, Southern Co-op and the bereaved families whose generosity made this incredible donation possible. Their support has created a lasting legacy through Arturo's partnership and will continue to make a difference for years to come.
