Easter is a time for celebration, family gatherings, and of course, treats—but it’s important to remember that some festive favourites can be harmful to our four-legged friends. Popular Easter goodies like chocolate and hot cross buns contain ingredients that are toxic to dogs, including theobromine, raisins, and certain spices.

If you suspect your dog has eaten something they shouldn’t have, it’s important to act quickly and contact your vet immediately. Early intervention can make all the difference.

Common signs of poisoning can include:

  • Vomiting or diarrhoea
  • Excessive drooling or panting
  • Restlessness or unusual behaviour
  • Tremors or even seizures in severe cases

If possible, try to make a note of what was eaten, how much, and when. Keeping any packaging or leftover food can also help your vet determine the best course of action.

Let’s enjoy the season while making sure our dogs stay happy and healthy. A little extra care can go a long way in preventing an emergency.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and joyful Easter.
