When Roger and Alison retired from running their farm shop in 2018, they started looking for local organisations to support. As lifelong dog lovers, they missed having a dog after their beloved Labrador-Collie Bruno passed away that year. Finding Hounds for Heroes nearby, they were inspired by the charity’s work and the difference assistance dogs make for those in need.

What began as occasional weekend and holiday cover grew into hosting dogs permanently as Full-Time Fosterers during their second year of training. They have now cared for 13 Hounds for Heroes dogs, even having two at once when extra foster families where needed.
They also share their home with Marnie, a black Labrador who came as an emergency foster from Labrador Lifeline and decided to stay. Marnie adores their Hounds for Heroes friends, sharing beds, treats and cuddles and they like to think some of their good behaviour has rubbed off on her.

For Roger and Alison, it’s simple: great dogs, a wonderful charity, lovely walks and the perfect excuse for all the dust and dog hair! Thank you for everything you do to help us change lives, one paw at a time.
