Isle of Wight tri-service cadets raised £5000 to name a dog Warrior
Recently, Allan Parton, Founder and Vice-Chairman of Hounds for Heroes accompanied by Hounds for heroes EJ, Rookie and Clooney was the guest speaker at the Cambridge business and professional club luncheon held at the prestigious Queens’ College Old Hall, Cambridge. The college had given special permission to allow full access not to just one but all three dogs , the first time this has happened in the collage’s 550 years history
Allen told the Club about his own life story, particularly as a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy during the first Gulf War. A promising career lay ahead until in 1991 he was involved in a wartime incident in which he suffered a severe head injury. He spent the next five years in hospital, initially unable to walk, speak or write. All this changed when he met, by chance, Endal a yellow Labrador and though he cannot explain why they were drawn to each other. Endal became Allan’s assistant and the dog’s loyalty and trust helped Allan to rekindle his life. Endal’s day to day situations included working a cash machine, pressing lights at pedestrian crossings and placing Allen in the recovery position when he became unwell. This partnership prompted Allen to set up the charity Hounds for Heroes and it helps the disabled of the Armed forces and Emergency Services. Sadly Endal passed away in 2009; the partnership lives on with faithful EJ (Endal Junior) at his side. The club donated £600 towards the training cost of a Hounds for Heroes assistant dog.
